Today I’m super excited, because our Llama got a new version and it’s seeing this world through some pretty special glasses! 🦙🕶️

Meta Connect 2024
Meta Connect just happened, and it was fantastic. They are pushing the competition out.

First of all, they share their models to the Open Source world, as in anybody who can run this models, can modify them and run them for themselves, unlike the competition OpenAI and Google.

Also they finally released an on-device model which is tiny (1B Parameters) but it doesn’t require a lot of processing power! Basically, what they are talking about is a tiny AI model that can finally run on your device so it can tell you how to cook cookies even if you’re out of an internet connection, you could even ask it how to survive on an island like Robinson Crusoe.

Speaking of models, Meta also announced another new model, for Llama 3.2, a 90 Billion Parameters Multimodal model. It’s the first open source model that is natively multi-modal. Why do we care about multi-modality? It’s simply slang for the tech companies to say that this AI can also see pictures. Now we can use them to feed pictures of cats, and it will finally understand which cat is the best looking. How hard is it currently to go to a shelter and adopt a cat 🐱, if you can’t ask the AI to choose it for you.. duh..

Ray-Ban Meta Glasses

Besides just a cool demonstration on how cool their models are, Meta showed off their application of AI Models. Their Ray-Ban Meta Glasses 🕶️ are in fact a marvelous piece of engineering, it will now be able to see, and even remember things you’ve already seen.

I think this is the best hardware AI device we’ve seen so far for the average consumer. Yes these are a little pricey at $320, but in return you get pretty good looking glasses, a camera, headphones, and direct access to your instagram and facebook profiles so you can upload nudes omitting your mobile phone 👌. In all honesty though, given that headphones alone are over $300 these days, I find it to be a somewhat decent deal.

Meta Orion Glasses

The last and most cool piece of tech so far, which they demoed only, as it’s still a prototype, and make me super excited, are the true AR Glasses.

Why are these glasses the coolest so far, is because these glasses have eye tracking, gesture control and transparent screens through which you can actually see the world. You can have the same tech you have in a Meta Quest but in a relatively small footprint, meaning that you can have multiple screens, apps running, playing games in real life with other people as well, etc. These glasses do in fact Augment your reality and things you see around you! I can’t be more excited about the future of this!

Now you might’ve already seen that you have a bracelet as well, that is what meta calls Neural Wristband, which is a fancy name for a cool piece of tech that watches your muscles and understands the gestures you’re doing. That alone is a fantastic piece of tech 🤯.

Anyways the last is a computing dock that runs all processing, and now you understand why this is still a prototype. The technological limitation of the goal of this device is pretty astonishing, yet here it is working and functioning as it should, given that you’re not to stay away from the power outlet for a long time.

As usual, just look at what marvelous piece of engineering is being born right in front of our eyes. The future is now.

That's it folks, see you next week ❤️️️️️️️

Happy Prompting!
